OUR MISSION

The Stanford Resilience and Longevity Initiative (STRIVE) studies the factors that shape physiological reserve — the physical, cognitive, and systemic capacities that enable people to withstand biological stress, adapt, recover, and maintain health and function over time.

We examine aging beyond isolated diseases and single measures, investigating how biological, functional, behavioral, and environmental factors interact to shape resilience across the lifespan. By developing multidimensional measures of health and reserve, we aim to identify emerging risk before decline becomes established and ultimately enable more individualized approaches to preserving healthspan.

Our mission is to redefine how we measure, predict, and preserve the capacities that support healthspan and independence across the lifespan.

Physical Reserve

Strength, mobility, and functional capacity that shape the body's response to biological stress and preserve function over time. 

Cognitive Reserve

Brain capacity that reduces vulnerability to acute physiological challenges and helps preserve long-term cognitive function. 

Systemic Reserve

Metabolic, immune, and organ-system capacity that supports physiological stability and adaptation over time.
